Job Title:    FRD Director
Reports To: President/CEO
Status:  Exempt, Full Time
 
 
JOB SUMMARY 
The FRD Director is responsible for overseeing Jewish Federation’s fund development efforts in the areas of the Community Campaign and, as the need arises - special campaigns.  The Director will develop and execute a comprehensive campaign plan and calendar and provide support in the areas of planned giving and endowments; and designated giving.
 
The Director, in partnership with the Chief Executive Officer, will play a key role in identifying, cultivating, and soliciting major donors and will personally manage a portfolio of major gift prospects.  The FRD Director is responsible for generating new and increased contributions for the annual campaign and designated initiatives.
 
S/he will report directly to the CEO and has day to day management and supervision of the Development Associate, Women’s Philanthropy Director, and FRD department support associates.
 
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Strategy
  • Continually develop and refine the strategic plan for an integrated FRD model which supports the overall mission of the organization.  Involve professional peers and relevant lay leaders in the strategic development process to utilize their expertise and cultivate their support. 
  • Stay current on emerging trends in philanthropic development and fundraising and incorporate into strategies and decision making. 
Solicitations
  • Manage and solicit a portfolio of major donors, new gift prospects and potential endowment gifts.
  • Develop positive relationships with current major donors and provide stewardship to the donor cultivation process.  
  • Participate in the cultivation and solicitation of selected major contributors and campaign leadership.  
Management & Relationships
  • Manage and supervise professional development staff, with emphasis on ongoing training and staff development. 
  • Develop and maintain strong working relationships with synagogues, federated agencies and community leaders; including the identification and implementation of innovative, collaborative fundraising efforts serving Federation and its beneficiaries.  
  • Participate as a member of the senior management team and provide advice and consultation to the CEO on all philanthropy related issues. 
  • Develop and implement Donor Relationship Management system
Data & Reporting
  • Ensure that donor information is effectively and efficiently maintained and prospect cultivation activity is appropriately tracked. 
  • Ensure that reporting systems are complete, efficient, and accurate and monitored for quality control.
  • Ensure that appropriate systems are in place to provide exceptional customer service to all donors and prospects. 
 
QUALIFICATIONS
FRD Experience
  • Minimum of five years of progressively responsible experience in a combination of high-profile non-profit and/or corporate settings with substantive leadership responsibility for fundraising and institutional advancement. 
  • Demonstrated success in major gifts fundraising and in stewardship of a large portfolio of major donors. 
  • Demonstrated success increasing financial resources and creating new partners. 
  • Experience with and knowledge about charitable gift planning and philanthropic vehicles 
Strategic Thinking & Leadership
  • Demonstrated success in developing and implementing short- and long-term strategic activities and tasks with clear goals, objectives and measurement tools. 
  • Skilled in identifying and anticipating the impact of emerging trends in philanthropic development and fundraising and incorporating these into decision making.
  • Ability to inspire others and build a commitment through articulating a clear and understandable vision
  • Strong management and leadership skills, including demonstrated success in ensuring teamwork and collaboration for high performing teams in a culture of accountability and discipline.  Experience in successful coaching and supervision of team members is essential.
Relationship Building & Communication Skills
  • Proven experience building, cultivating and stewarding new relationships. 
  • Proven success building and maintaining trusted relationships with key stakeholders and the ability to interact with multiple constituencies.
  • Effective communications – excellent written and verbal skills and the ability to make sound data-based judgments.

  • Ability to problem solve and implement a vision.
  • Understands the use of analytics to develop and implement plans. 
  • Good judgment and the highest level of integrity. 
  • Possess a personal commitment to Jewish values and knowledge of Jewish traditions.
  • Knowledge of the Federation is desirable but not a pre-requisite for the position.
  • Be willing to travel away from home for 3 to as much as 10 days to attend missions.
