Chief of Staff and Operations – Denver

FUNCTION SUMMARY:
The essential function of the Chief of Staff and Operations is to provide strategic counsel to the CEO and other key leaders, leadership for the organization on culture and people systems, management of daily operations and lead a strategic framework for internal and external communications. Through a respectful, constructive and energetic style, guided by the objectives of JEWISHcolorado, the Chief of Staff will support the CEO in furthering the mission of the organization and carrying out its values. The position reports to the CEO and is responsible for the strategic oversight of HR, Marketing, Events, Programming and Operations/IT.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Provide day-to-day leadership and management that adhere to JEWISHcolorado’s mission and values.
  2. A strategic advisor to the CEO on setting priorities, time management and focus, communication, monitoring information flow and playing the role of troubleshooter/gatekeeper.
  3. Acting as the communication arm for the CEO, responding to the staff, board, major stakeholders and community on behalf of, or with the CEO
  4. Communicate wants, needs, concerns, ideas from employees to CEO in an effective and efficient way.
  5. Motivate and lead a high-performance management team; attract, recruit and retain required members of the executive team.
  6. Provide strategic oversight and leadership for HR, Marketing, Events, Programming and Operations/IT.
  7. Create and maintain cross-departmental relationships to enable leadership success.
  8. Create and lead a communication framework for donors, employees and executives.
  9. Lead the overall marketing strategy of the organization.
  10. Work closely with the Chief Development Officer on marketing and communications strategies designed to strengthen total financial resource development.
  11. Oversee public relations including positioning of organization in the media.
  12. Collaborate with the management team to develop and implement plans for the operational infrastructure of systems, processes and personnel designed to accommodate the operating needs of the organization.
  13. Responsible for the measurement and effectiveness of all processes – internal and external. Provide timely, accurate and complete reports on the operating condition of the organization to the CEO and/or Board of Directors.
  14. Facilitate all Executive Team meetings by planning agendas, previewing and critiquing presentations and reports and driving outcomes and follow-up plans.
  15. Provide strategic oversight and guidance on projects of high importance.
  16. Responsible for setting the direction of the culture and engaging the staff of the organization in developing and maintaining the agreed-upon culture.
  17. Foster a success-oriented, accountable environment within the organization.
  18. Act as a point of contact between top management and employees. Works with the Managers of the departments to resolve employee grievances or other issues.
  19. Report the organization’s goals, accomplishments, challenges and recommendations to various lay leaders and committees.
  20. Perform other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in planning, business, organizational management, nonprofit management or a related field required. Master’s degree preferred.

Experience:

  • Ten plus years related experience in nonprofit leadership is preferred.
  • Minimum of seven years of marketing and communications experience in senior roles
  • Knowledge of the Jewish community and its institutions is preferred.

  • Strong strategic planning and research skills, advisory group formation, development and leadership skills, working with a variety of organizations and stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated expertise in achieving definable results in a complex environment with multiple constituents, working in a high-performance organization.
  • Ability to think strategically and bring vision to the position.
  • Ability to make effective and persuasive speeches and presentations on complex topics to the Board and others.
  • Ability to integrate data and information for improved management of operations.
  • Successful track record as a team player with a collaborative style and exceptional interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrated track record in sound decision-making, problem-solving, use of good judgment and an openness to opinions and ideas of others, including experience with consensus-driven decision-making.
  • Ability to determine direction, drive results and make things happen; self-motivated with the ability to positively influence and motivate others.
  • Proven project management, conflict resolution and problem-solving/analytical skills.
  • Positive and high energy employee with a genuine concern for the well-being of co-workers; willingness to help and/or share ideas, and a passion for strengthening the Jewish community.

ADDITIONAL JOB INFORMATION

Position Type: 37.5-hour per week; exempt; qualifies for all benefit packages

Working Conditions: This job can be physically demanding (which can include bending, reaching, squatting, kneeling, twisting, constant walking, frequent sitting, and maintaining close visual attention to write reports; occasional lifting up to 30 pounds).
