A Word of Thanks Following an Extraordinary March

This week’s Torah reading repeats God’s promise to Abraham that “I will multiply your seed like the stars in the heavens.” Just look at this particular constellation of stars shining on the National Mall! What a beautiful sight.

We end the week with one more set of thank yous--for mobilizing your families and your communities to come to Washington, to the law enforcement agencies that kept us safe, and to all the Members of Congress and allies across America who joined us. It was truly a historic week.

We know we are all tired but we cannot afford to rest - other than on Shabbat of course! The challenges that we were responding to in Washington this week are not going away. We will need to continue supporting Israel in our communities and in the Capitol as this long and difficult war also continues. We must raise the names and pictures of the hostages in every setting and every moment possible until they are all free. And the rise in antisemitism will require stronger and more sustained responses than we have every before been called upon to implement.

In the coming days, look for more information on solidarity missions to Israel, local community mobilization efforts, needed funds, and more.

We celebrated Rosh Hodesh Kislev this week, the month that contains Chanukah. This is the month that is all about light overcoming darkness. While he was performing at the March, the Israeli singer Ishay Ribo looked out at the sea of people filling the Mall, all the way back to the Washington Monument, and exulted, “Now, I see in front of my eyes-Or, Ein Sof, light with no end."

Our light truly has no end.

כן יהי רצון

Shabbat Shalom
