Executive Director - Grand Rapids

The Jewish Federation of Grand Rapids is seeking an Executive Director
(30 hours/week)
 

Responsibilities
Fundraising and Financial Resource Development (top priority)

  • Implement the Annual Campaign cycle to realize the fundraising increase goal; maintain process effectiveness and efficiency
  • Work with lay leaders to identify, train, motivate, and manage solicitors
  • Recognize, thank, and provide communication conduit from major donors
  • Cultivate current and potential major donors; identify opportunities, develop cultivation and ask strategies, work with lay leadership to conduct meetings
  • Explore and recommend additional (non-donor) sources of funding

Organizational Management and Leadership

  • Organize roles and responsibilities to align allocated resources with JFGR objectives
  • Communicate roles, expectations, priorities; manage and develop capabilities of team
  • With Board involvement, lead development, documentation, and execution of strategy and business plan for JFGR
  • Manage expenses within budget; identify cost effective ways to execute the business plan and deliver programs and services
  • Maintain productive working relationship with President and Board consistent with JFGR values and professional/lay division of responsibilities (to be developed)

Programming and Services Delivery Oversight; Program Management

  • Work with Board and other community organizations to help determine where JFGR will provide alone, provide with others, or not provide
  • Oversee staff and support volunteers in delivering programming and services consistent with budget, mission, and strategy
  • Coordinate evaluation of effectiveness of delivered programs and services in order to continually improve
  • Where appropriate, identify other organizations that can augment our budget and capabilities to provide programs and services
  • Act as Program Director, providing overall management (conception and development, logistics, marketing, financing, on-site direction) of Film Festival and other cultural, holiday, educational, and social programming.

Community Relations

  • Act as initial point of contact for inquiries coming from inside and outside the community regarding Jewish community in West Michigan
  • Coordinate communication to the community; lead circulation of Shofar, emails, JFGR statements, and other communications consistent with JFGR mission and communication policies
  • Work with JFNA and within guidelines of communications policy (to be developed) to advise and recommend to Board when and how to communicate to major donors, JFGR community, and West Michigan community at large in response to events, issues, and questions
  • Enhance the unity of the Jewish community and larger community in West Michigan
     

Qualifications

  • Excellent financial resources development skills--strategy development and implementation, use of communication tools, donor cultivation and relations, major gift solicitation, campaign leadership and management
  • Knowledge and passion about issues affecting Jewish communities and Israel--ability to inform, engage, and inspire others around these issues in non-partisan way
  • Consensus-building--ability to understand, work effectively with, and promote unity among local Jewish and non-Jewish community organizations
  • Interpersonal skills--emotional intelligence, diplomacy, ability to work in partnership with JFGR volunteer leaders and Board members
  • People and resource management skills--ability to manage, motivate, and develop the team; resourcefulness with community assets
  • Leader development--ability to identify, involve, engage, and develop potential future lay and professional leaders
