The Position of CEO

The Birmingham Jewish Federation seeks a passionate CEO with strong community building, fundraising, strategic thinking and management skills to lead a vibrant community of roughly 6500 Jewish people.  The CEO will oversee all federation operations, including governance, hiring and supervision of personnel, fundraising, programming, relationships with Birmingham’s diverse Jewish institutions, relationships with the broader community and its civic leadership, and partnerships in Israel and elsewhere globally.

The CEO will be the recognized professional leader and spokesperson for the Federation.  S/he will cultivate and further strengthen Birmingham’s Jewish community by working with federation volunteer leaders to fill the lay leadership pipeline, while fostering and maintaining strong collaborative partnerships with the community’s other Jewish institutions.  The CEO will work with the Board and other key community stakeholders to create a supportive, energized environment where new ideas, programs and services can incubate and grow, while the financial health and prosperity of the organization-driven by innovative current and long-term financial resource development strategies-can be secured for the future.

About the Collaboration Agreement

The Birmingham Jewish Federation and the Levite Jewish Community Center (LJCC) have been sharing staff and resources for approximately two years under an existing agreement set to expire in December 2019. In July 2019, both Boards approved a new collaboration agreement that will take effect when the CEO begins working at the Birmingham Jewish Federation. Under the new collaboration agreement, the CEO will work with the LJCC Executive Director and Board, providing input regarding vision and strategy for the LJCC. The Agreement also expressly allows the CEO and LJCC Executive Director to share staff and other resources by mutual agreement.  The hope is that the new CEO, working closely with the board of the Birmingham Jewish Federation, the LJCC board, and the LJCC Executive Director will continue moving the collaborative efforts taking place between these organizations forward.
